ONO Architectuur - Children’s shoe store, Belsele 2011. The shop takes the form of a row-home in this historically protected and picturesque Belgian town. The stepped roof on the second level not only reconciles the heights of the neighboring buildings, but creates a duplex space for the upper apartment. On the lower level, the shop’s floor is sunk from the sidewalk to create a larger sense of space in the narrow lot. A nice pallet of materials including brass, polished concrete, and painted concrete block comprise the interior spaces, with lighting fixtures that seem to draw inspiration from Lewerentz.
